Relativistic Thomas-fermi Model at Finite Temperatures
We briefly review the Thomas-Fermi statistical model of atoms in the classical non-relativistic formulation and in the generalised finite-nucleus relativistic formulation. We then discuss the classical generalisation of the model to finite temperatures in the non-relativistic approximation and present a new relativistic model at finite temperatures, investigating how to recover the existing the...
متن کامل0 Symmetry Results for Finite - Temperature , Relativistic Thomas - Fermi Equations ∗
In the semi-classical limit the quantum mechanics of a stationary beam of counter-streaming relativistic electrons and ions is described by a nonlinear system of finite-temperature Thomas–Fermi equations. In the high temperature / low density limit these Thomas–Fermi equations reduce to the (semi-)conformal system of Bennett equations discussed earlier by Lebowitz and the author. With the help ...
متن کاملCaloric Curve for Finite Nuclei in Thomas-fermi Theory
In a finite temperature Thomas-Fermi theory with realistic nuclear interactions, we construct caloric curves for finite nuclei enclosed in a sphere of about 4− 8 times the normal nuclear volume. The specific heat capacity Cv shows a peaked structure that is possibly indicative of a liquid-gas phase transition in finite nuclear systems.
متن کاملStatic Properties of Trapped Bose Gases at Finite Temperature: Thomas-Fermi Limit
We rely on a variational approach to derive a set of equations governing a trapped self-interacting Bose gas at finite temperature. In this work, we analyze the static situation both at zero and finite temperature in the Thomas-Fermi limit. We derive simple analytic expressions for the condensate properties at finite temperature. The noncondensate and anomalous density profiles are also analyze...
متن کاملThomas-Fermi Theory of Fullerenes
We study C60 with the use of Thomas-Fermi theory. A spherical shell model is invoked to treat the nuclear potential, where the nuclear and core charges are smeared out into a shell of constant surface charge density. The valence electron distribution and the electrostatic potential are efficiently computed by integration of the Thomas-Fermi equation, subject to the shell boundary conditions. To...
